SOUL carried out a cleaning campaign in 18 slums in Amanat Al-Asimah and Sana'a governorate as part of the Integrated Model of Social and Economic Assistance and Empowerment - Yemen (IMSEA) project activities which is funded by UNICEF.
Around 280 workers from the targeted slums (103 women and 177 men) participated in the campaign which continued for seven consecutive days.
This campaign was unprecedented in the targeted slums, as it was carried out in close collaboration between SOUL and the Cleaning Fund in both Amanat Al-Asimah and Sana'a governorate. It provided hygiene and heavy equipment such as skid steer loaders and waste collection trucks.
During the campaign, cleaners lifted stacked piles of garbage and remove waste and dust. They also cleaned streets and entrances in the targeted slums.
The campaign was accompanied by many awareness-raising sessions and social activities. It attracted wide community participation from the slum residents, which was one of the most unique features of this campaign. The slums residents appreciated the contribution of the project in cleaning their areas.
